Top secret-2 How to make easy realistic paper leaves

Updated: Jan 13, 2021

Hello friends, in my last blog post I talked about realistic Jasmine paper flowers. Let’s see what can be done to enhance the beauty of that bunch of beautifully handcrafted jasmine. Yes, you are right! Paper leaves!!

Those eye catching greens magnify the look and feel of the paper bouquet beyond words and that is why I always like to spend a lot of time not only on my paper flowers but also on my paper leaves.

Leaves are normally sturdy looking. For most types of leaves I use doublette crepe paper also known as duplex crepe. However since I did not come across light green duplex crepe in Singapore, in my video below, I have shown the leaves using light green Italian crepe paper. There are different qualities and weightages of paper and I personally do not find any difference in the look and longevity of the cheaper version of paper for my leaves compared to the more expensive ones. This is my personal honest opinion and I would also like to save the expensive paper for my flowers😁 Also the ones that I have used can easily be painted while it is difficult to paint the heavy duty Italian crepe paper. You can give it a try!

The purpose of cutting the crepe paper in triangles is to align the lines on the paper to replicate the veins as in actual leaves. Try them and you will be amazed at the varieties that you can craft.

Trial and error is the best way to using the right quality paper for the kind of look you want to give to your flowers and leaves. I have learnt it a hard way over years and would like to share the secrets with beginners to shorten your learning journey. You can see the paper leaves in action along with my paper flowers amongst various elegant bouquets.

These leaves are handcrafted from crepe paper and painted to make them look like real ones. They go so well in paper bouquets.
Handcrafted paper leaves

The art of making leaves also requires the 4 ‘ P s’ mentioned in my earlier blog post. Which are Passion, Patience, Perseverance and Practice. If you enjoy crafting and are always looking forward to creating unique handcrafted diy gifts for your loved ones, or even planning to take up paper floristry as a small business, these 4 Ps are the ones that will help you reach your goals. So keep blooming and crafting!
